BAFTA-winning Darren Boyd and co-star Rebekah Staton told DS that they felt "pleased and proud" to be making a show that the entire family can enjoy.
Boyd - who plays hapless spy Tim Elliot - explained that the series was rewritten to appeal to a family audience, having originally been scripted with a "different" and more "adult tone".
"The feedback that a lot of us got was from parents and children [saying] that they were sitting down together to watch [the series] - that's been a huge success," said the actor.
Staton added: "It's lovely to be able to say to every member of your family, young and old, 'You can watch this one', and I'm proud to say that because I think the show is fantastic."
Spy returns to Sky1 this Friday (October 19) at 8.30pm.
