RI:SE drops its frontman

Mark Durden-Smith will not be returning as host of the new-look RI:SE later this month, it emerged today.

According to the Media Guardian, the presenter was told by producers before Christmas that his contract would not be renewed for the show's second series, which begins on January 20.

"We sat down with Mark before Christmas and discussed the fact that he was unlikely to be a member of the presenting team when the show comes back," a spokesman for Channel 4 said. "A new presenting team has been recruited and we will be announcing the new line-up imminently."

The decision comes just one month after it was announced that news presenter Chris Rogers, entertainment correspondent Liz Bonnin and sports anchor Kirsty Gallacher would all be dropped from the show.

The only remaining member of the original seven-strong presenting team, Edith Bowman, will now co-host the show -- which is being relocated to a London shopping centre -- alongside Iain Lee, best known as host of cult series The 11 O'Clock Show. Since the show ended, he has had a stint presenting BBC Choice's entertainment magazine Liquid News and BBC One's My Worst Week, a documentary about troubled celebrities.
