The game, created for Fuji Television show Tunnels no minnasan no okage deshita, was watched worldwide on the internet and named Hole In The Wall.
Contestants are challenged to fit their bodies into differently-shaped holes in a wall as it moves towards them.
The Times reported that the format, which was being piloted by BBC One earlier this year, has now been developed as part of a new 11-part series.
