Britney and Eminem lined up for VMAs

By
MTV announced today that Britney Spears and Eminem will perform at the seventeenth annual MTV Video Music Awards. Britney and Eminem join a line-up of previously announced performers including Janet Jackson, *NSYNC, and Rage Against the Machine.

Hosted by the Wayans brothers, Shawn and Marlon, the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast LIVE on MTV UK & Ireland on Friday 8th September at 1am, with further chances to catch the action later that day at 8pm.

It was also announced that Chris Rock, Sting, The Rock, Eve, 98 Degrees, Destiny's Child, Nelly, and Ricky Martin will be among those who will present awards at the seventeenth annual Video Music Awards. Additional performers and presenters will be announced in forthcoming weeks.

Britney Spears is currently riding high in album charts around the world with her multi-platinum album, "Oops!..I Did It Again," which has sold over 5 million copies in the US alone. When it hit stores in the US in May 2000, "Oops!..I Did It Again" established the highest first-week sales for a female solo artist. Her debut album, "Baby One More Time" has sold over 12 million copies in the US. Nominated for four Video Music awards, Britney is currently on her sold-out nationwide tour of the United States.

Currently at number three in the UK album charts, Eminem's multi-platinum long-player, "The Marshall Mathers LP", had the highest first-week sales for any solo artist, male or female, and the highest first-week sales record for any rap act, in the US. Eminem is currently on the "Up In Smoke" tour featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube, and tops the Video Music Awards nominations list with six nominations. At last year's awards show, Eminem won the "Best New Artist" category.
