More performers at MTV VMAs

MTV: Music Television has announced that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, DMX, and Blink 182 will perform at the seventeenth annual "MTV Video Music Awards." They join a line-up of previously announced performers including Janet Jackson, *NSYNC, Eminem, Britney Spears and Rage Against The Machine.
Hosted by the Wayans brothers, Shawn and Marlon, the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards will take place at the Radio City Music Hall on September 7, and be broadcast LIVE on MTV UK & Ireland in the early hours of September 8 at 1am. The show will be repeated on September 8 at 8pm, and will also form the backbone of an MTV Video Music Awards 2000 Winners Weekend on September 8 & 9. The ceremony will be seen on all of MTV's global channels in 340.8 million households in 139 countries.
It was also announced that Dr. Dre, Lars Ulrich, Carson Daly, Snoop Dogg and Lil' Kim will be among those who will present at the awards Previously announced presenters include Chris Rock, Sting, The Rock, Eve, 98 Degrees, Destiny's Child, Nelly and Ricky Martin. Additional performers and presenters will be announced shortly.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are nominated for five Video Music Awards. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication," the single off their multi-platinum album of the same name, went straight into the UK charts at No 16 this week. Currently on the Ruff Ryders/Cash Money Millionaires tour, DMX's music video for "Party Up," the single off their multi-platinum album, And There Was X, is nominated in the Best Rap category. Blink 182 is nominated for three Video Music Awards. Blink 182's album, Enema of the State, has gone multi-platinum, and they are scheduled to release a live album in November 2000. The band made their UK breakthrough earlier this year with the massive hit, "All The Small Things".
Each MTV channel has localised programmes reflecting the language, culture and attitudes of the youth audience it serves. Each network customises the "MTV Video Music Awards" show for its local audience with its own VJ's and producers on-site creating wrap-arounds and packages to give each broadcast a cultural reference point.
