ITV granted judicial review over news
Published Wednesday, Aug 23 2000, 17:00 BST | By Neil Wilkes
The ITV network has been granted a judicial review of the Independent Television Commission's order that it should move its nightly news programme from 23:00 to an earlier time.
Falling audience figures prompted the ITC in June to ask ITV to move the news bulletin in question to an earlier slot in the evening; initially ITV refused, and in response the ITC made the request an order.
The Nightly News bulletin was originally created after ITV removed News at Ten from its prime-time lineup, a move which attracted significant criticism. Audience figures for the replacement programme, screened at 11pm, have been less than impressive.
