You TV fined £40,000

The Independent Television Commission has fined You TV £40,000 for "numerous and repeated breaches" of both the Programmes and Advertising Codes.
The channel was slapped with a £20,000 fine in March this year after a number of code breaches - and in particular, repeating material that had previously found to be in breach. This situation has repeated itself, with the channel continuing to air an ad for the ever-popular Dalton McCrary - How To Hit The Ball As Straight As You Can - Guaranteed, despite it being ruled unacceptable by the Commission in March.
In addition, the Commission continued to be concerned about commercial influence on You TV's programmes. Examples of this, according to the ITC, were found in The Travel Cafe, which contained references to commercial websites along with "...comments from the presenter which could have been regarded as endorsements."
The Commission concluded: "Bearing in mind these serious compliance failures, a substantial financial penalty was thought appropriate. The Commission considered that further serious breaches of the Code could risk revocation of the licence."
You TV has twenty-eight days from the date of notification to pay the fine to the Treasury.
