US power cuts dominate UK news channels
Published Friday, Aug 15 2003, 00:55 BST | By Steven Smith
Massive power outages across north-eastern America have cleared the schedules of UK news broadcasters this evening.
The power cuts occurred shortly after 9pm UK time, as most news channels were rounding up the latest events surrounding the Hutton inquiry into the death of WMD scientist Dr Kelly, when the news broke.
Within minutes, every UK news broadcaster was following it's US counterparts with non-stop news on developments in the area.
Sky News have been best placed for the coverage, as their sister station Fox News is based in New York, at the centre of the power cuts.
Terrorism has already been ruled out as the cause of the outages, but anxieties of those affected in New York - many are still trapped in the subways - expectedly running high.
