Unique items from the 1966 World Cup are among an action-packed and pioneering catalogue of football memorabilia to be auctioned on 4th October.
For the first time leading sporting auctioneers, Mullock Madely, are linking with The Auction Channel for a football sale. The partnership has selected the awe-inspiring venue of Arsenal Football Club's Highbury Stadium in North London for the auction.
Fascination is likely to reach fever pitch as the sale is broadcast live over the Internet (via www.theauctionchannel.com) starting at 2p.m. with highlights featured in the live televised section broadcast by The Auction Channel on Sky Sports 1 from 8p.m. Television and Internet viewers will be able to bid live, while they watch.
Says auctioneer John Mullock, "We have an amazing catalogue of 675 lots, with something for all, from the serious collector and investor to the supporter and enthusiast. The beauty of linking up with The Auction Channel is that buyers will be able to bid throughout the sale from anywhere in the country - or, indeed, the world."
John Keeling, The Auction Channel President Europe, adds, "Our monthly live auctions on Sky Sports have brought a range of collectibles from all popular sports to Sky Sports viewers' homes, with viewers enjoying the experience of being able to bid for treasured items just as if they were attending the auction in person. It is interactive television at its most appealing."
The richest collection of football memorabilia ever to come under the Mullock Madeley hammer, items represent major international games throughout the 20th century and many historic achievements of top clubs, including Manchester |United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Stoke City, Newcastle United - to name a few.
Top lots include:
Three pairs of VIP tickets for three forthcoming Newcastle United home matches have been donated by Malcolm MacDonald (Newcastle and England) to raise funds for the North Shields Athletic Football Club Stadium Appeal for Young Footballers.
An extremely rare doubled side FIA silk Jules Rimet Pennant of Honour from the 1966 World Cup. Only three other examples were presented and awarded to FIFA officers. Explains John Mullock, "Earlier this year the original artist's proof for the pennant sold for £5,200 so expectations are for a strong five figure price for the real thing".
Valued at a £750 - £800 is a highly collectible blue International Cap from the England V Italy 1947 - 48 belonging to Neil Franklin. The cap, embroidered with the three Lions crest will be sold together with three press photographs.
Two celebration histories spanning more than a century, representing Arsenal and Tottenham football clubs, will compete for the biggest chequebook with bids expected to reach £15,000 - £20,000.
The half-hour preview programme transmitted from 29th September will feature many of the lots, and discussed by such football personalities as Malcolm MacDonald, Peter Osgood and George Hardwick. Advice and details will be given to viewers on how to register for the auction and bid while they watch.
