'Canterbury Tales' makes strong start

The first in a series of Canterbury Tales adaptations scored big in the ratings for BBC One last night, early figures show.
Chaucer's classic The Miller's Tale, with a cast including James Nesbitt, Dennis Waterman and Billie Piper, averaged 7.6 million viewers and a 33.0% audience share from 9pm. Viewing peaked at 9.15pm with 8.2 million (35.6%).
The drama wiped the floor with ITV1's new medical series, Sweet Medicine, which was down 1.7 million on last week to just 5.1 million (22.1%).
Elsewhere last night, C4's The Games averaged a respectable 2.4 million (10.4%) at 9pm, followed by The Salon at 10pm with 1.9 million (11.5%).
