CNN to be embedded into Nokia 6600s

CNN's new Java-powered mobile news product, CNNlive, will be embedded into the multimedia cards of Nokia 6600 phones sold in Europe.

The application will be included in the standard sales package of the phones, and will also be available on Nokia.com's shopping area for users of other Series 60 phones including the 3660 and 7650 models. However, after a 14-day free trial, users will be required to subscribe with a monthly fee. The fee varies according to country and market.

Mitch Lazar, VP of Wireless and Emerging Technologies at TBS, CNN's parent company, said:

"As mobile technologies expand and consumers have the ability for an enhanced experience on their mobile handset, we believe that providing a powerful branded experience will help drive the take-up of these important services and increase data revenue for mobile operators, manufacturers and media companies like Turner Broadcasting. Furthermore, embedding an application like CNNlive provides a critical step in lowering the barriers that prevent users accessing content services and channels on their wireless devices by presenting the service to users right out-of-the-box and offering a try-before-you-buy opportunity."
