'Wife Swap' ends with a difference

Published Thursday, Oct 30 2003, 08:37 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
Next week's final episode in the current series of Wife Swap will have a different slant to proceedings... it will be the husbands rather than the wives exchanging homes and families for a fortnight.

The episode - airing Tuesday at 9pm on C4 - will feature two househusbands, Nigel Bailey and Darren Duce-Mills.

The Bailey family, headed by Nigel and wife of eight years Marina, live in Worksop where Marina works as a market researcher. They have seven children between the ages of two and 17. Nigel is described as a "human dynamo" who prides himself on doing everything to perfection: each day he cooks individual meals for all the children, does at least four loads of washing and scrubs the floors three times. Marina hasn't lifted a finger in the house since the day she met Nigel.

By contrast, the Duce-Mills family are much more laid-back. Darren, a dog-breeder, biker and spiritual healer, is married to Alexandra and step-dad to her ten-year-old son Victor. Alexandra works as a speech therapist and is a published poet who makes time each day for music, writing and their five Staffordshire bull terriers. Cleaning comes very low on the Duce-Mills' agenda; as Darren puts it: "as long as it doesn't look like a dustbin, I'm happy."

The week after Wife Swap ends, a four-part celebrity version will begin.
