The revived version, to be made by ITV Productions, has been tentatively pencilled in for a primetime Saturday night slot on ITV1.
The show will feature filmed blunders and outtakes from programmes such as EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and GMTV. ITV is also asking independent production firms to send in their bloopers.
Rhys Jones said of his appointment: "I have boobed myself - I know the territory. It's always been a great, great show. I am ready, willing and awfully excited by the opportunity to take it on to the 22nd century."
Norden retired from the bloopers show in 2006 after 30 years.
