War on terror explored in new TNT/BBC drama

The global war on terror will be explored in a new drama named The Grid from Turner Broadcasting's TNT and the BBC, it was announced today.
Gareth Neame, the head of drama commissioning at the BBC, explained:
"The Grid is an international project that looks in detail at a terrorist cell operating on a global level and a team of American and British counter-terrorists who are tasked to stop it. It’s an ambitious project that explores what motivates and finances the terrorists and examines how international agencies must cooperate to defeat them. The drama looks at the defining threat of our time but does so on a bigger scale than is possible with shows like Spooks [known as MI-5 in the USA] and 24."
Dylan McDermott (The Practice) and Julianna Marguiles (ER) will star in the six-hour series. McDermott will play FBI agent Mike Canary, with Marguiles playing a maverick counter-terrorism operative working at the NSA. They will be two of three American counter-terrorism operatives working alongside two British colleagues to disrupt a terrorist cell intent on destroying financial targets.
Michael Wright, TNT's senior vice president of original programming, said:
"We’re very happy to have Julianna Margulies and Dylan McDermott at the head of our cast. These are two extremely talented actors who bring credibility to whatever they do, and who appeal to a wide television audience. The Grid is very well written; it’s rich in character, and tells a complex story about one of the most provocative, relatable subjects we face today in a gripping, thought-provoking manner. It’s smart drama, and we think it’s emblematic of the TNT brand."
Production is expected to begin during early 2004 in Toronto, London and Morocco.
