Christmas comes early for Five
Festive film Miracle on 34th Street helped Five to its highest audience of the year yesterday (Sunday), early ratings figures indicate.

Starring Richard Attenborough, the 1994 remake pulled in an average of 4.5 million viewers - a 19% share of the audience - over two hours from 6pm.

The showing was also Five's third most popular movie ever, beaten only by the terrestrial premieres of Independence Day on 5.4 million and The Rock on 5.1 million.

Its success pushed up Five's overall share during peaktime to 10.3%, only marginally behind BBC Two's 10.4% but well ahead of C4's 4.6% average.
