BBC Four's main primetime newscast, which is simulcast on the corporation's international news and current affairs channel, BBC World, will be relaunched in January under the new name of The World. The new programme will feature more in-depth stories on world news, and may occasionally devote an entire programme to a single issue.
Roly Keating, BBC Four's controller, said:
"BBC Four News has established a brilliant editorial track record.
"The World will build on that success and continue to provide an unashamedly international perspective to global news."
BBC Four News Editor Amanda Farnsworth will move to the Six O'Clock News over on BBC One after the launch of The World; a new editor is now being recruited for the BBC Four programme.
