Sky One grabs '24'

Sky has won the rights to the third season of 24, it was confirmed today.

The show, previously aired on the BBC, became available for other broadcasters to bid for following the breakdown of talks between Fox and the BBC earlier this month. The BBC said that it was due to them not being willing to meet the price that Fox wanted, although it was no secret that Fox had concerns over the BBC's recent switch to Free-to-Air broadcasts of its satellite signal, meaning that European viewers could watch the series for free via the BBC instead of on the relevant pay network in their own country.

Sky One, who outbid Channel 4, has purchased both the Pay-TV and Terrestrial rights to season 3, although it is expected that the terrestrial rights will be sold on - with Channel 5 the expected purchaser.

According to Media Guardian, the deal also gives Sky One the rights to repeat Season 1 and 2 of the series.
