Only Men Aloud were announced as the winners of BBC One's Last Choir Standing last night.

The 18-strong Welsh group beat off competition from their rival choirs Revelation and Ysgol Glanaethwy in the final public vote of the series.

After the result had been announced by show hosts Myleene Klass and Nick Knowles, the choir's musical director Tim Rhys Evans said: "I'm absolutely elated and very emotional and just grateful to everyone who's voted for us."

Only Men Aloud had impressed the public with performances of Welsh hymn 'Cwm Rhondda' and Funny Girl track 'Don't Rain On My Parade' in the final. They will now be invited to perform on the Royal Variety Show and at BBC Radio Three's Choir of the Year final.

Last Choir Standing started out last month with 60 choirs at the audition stages. Six went on to make it through to the live finals, which have been running for the past few weeks.
