Speculation about the long-term future of BBC Three's Celebdaq - the TV show based on BBCi's celebrity stock trading microsite - has started up after the BBC announced the show would be placed on hiatus from January 16.
The show will stay off the air until March, when it will return for a two week run with new presenters, airing Monday to Thursday for half an hour. After that run is completed, a decision regarding the show's future will be made. Stuart Murphy, BBC Three's controller, explained:
"Celebdaq is something which really works for BBC Three and it's a crucial part of our drive to develop cross platform BBC Three brands.
"We want to see whether a more regular and substantial version of the show can work and in order to do this we need to take it off air for a few weeks to give the team time to generate new ideas."
Commenting on the decision to move Paddy O'Connell and Libby Potter to other projects on BBC Three, Murphy said:
"Paddy O'Connell is a very talented guy who we want to continue developing. Most of his first year at BBC Three has been spent on Celebdaq, with some time on New Tycoons and Liquid News.
"Like Paddy, Libby Potter is also a great talent and I'm keen that they both have the opportunity to try other shows; we hope to be in a position to announce these new series for the channel very soon."
