Last News at Nine scores low

The last ever Nine O'Clock News on BBC1 scored low in the ratings, with just 5 million (22%) tuning in.

Following at 21.30 was Parkinson with 5.5 million (25%). At the same time on ITV, Tomorrow Never Dies cleaned up with 9.2 million (43%).

A Casualty special on Saturday evening drew 9.2 million (40%), beating ITV's Family Fortunes (6.7m: 29%). Later, the network premiere of Speed 2: Cruise Control averaged 6.9 million (35%).

Sunday night saw Superhuman on BBC1 pitted against ITV drama Without Motive. The former averaged 6.3 million (27%), with the latter coming out victor, averaging 8.3 million (36%).

Earlier in the evening, the second part of a Casualty special attracted 7.9 million (30%), but lost out to an hour-long edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? with 13.4 million (51%).
