Kate Garraway has dismissed Ulrika Jonsson as a candidate to succeed Fiona Phillips on the GMTV sofa.

Garraway, who hosts the ITV1 breakfast show two days a week, told The Mirror that former TV-am presenter Jonsson doesn't have the necessary qualifications required for the job.

She said: "It's very unlikely she will get the job. She is not a journalist and the job needs someone that has those skills. Everyone else does. I would really love the job, but I will stay on, whatever happens."

Garraway suggested that Phillips's departure would be "good for the company. It is time for a change, time for a shake-up."

Garraway has been named as the bookmakers' favourite for the job, with Myleene Klass, Jenni Falconer, Holly Willoughby, Kate Silverton and Christine Bleakley also rumoured.
