The 13-year-old brought show judge Amanda Holden to tears in his first audition when he performed a rendition of 'Pie Jesu' after revealing that he had been picked on for his love of singing.
Johnston later went on to finish in third place on the ITV1 talent series, which was won by young breakdancer George Sampson.
Speaking to the Daily Record about the reaction of his schoolmates, Andrew explained: "Everyone was great. No one really bothers and that's the way I like it."
Johnston has since been snapped up by Simon Cowell's SyCo music label. His debut album One Voice will be released at the end of the month.
"[Simon] hasn't phoned me yet to wish me luck, but he might do before the album is released," Andrew said. "It's good enough that he's given me a record deal, that's praise enough."
