
The prospect of Ann Widdecombe taking on the diet industry was not tempting enough for viewers last night, according to early ratings figures.
The latest of the Tory MP's issue-led programmes, Ann Widdecombe Versus The Diet Industry, managed a dismal 1.88m (8.9%) for ITV1 in the prime 9pm hour.
BBC One's Motorway Cops: A Traffic Cops Special had over three times' the audience, with 6.11m (28.9%) for the hour. BBC Two had a decent 2.73m (12.8%) for Mock The Week at 9pm, then ratings dropped to 1m (4.8%) for the final episode of comedy The Cup half an hour later.
Channel 4's The Virgin Daughters, about the increasing number of purity pledges in the US, interested 1.45m (6.8%) and on Five, Extraordinary People: The Million Dollar Mind Reader had 0.91m (4.3%).
ITV1 had the upper hand at 8pm, drawing 5.12m (24.7%) to The Bill. BBC One managed 3.75m (18.4%) for The Planners Are Coming then 3.26m (15.4%) for Accidental Heroes.

EastEnders took the ratings crown for the day overall, picking up 7.88m (39.9%) for BBC One at 7.30pm. Emmerdale was second with 6.21m (34.6%) at 7pm.
Katie & Peter: The Next Chapter was the biggest multichannel draw, with 781,000 (4.2%) for ITV2 in the 9pm hour. Sky1's two-hour Bones premiere also pulled in the punters, averaging 584,000 (3.5%) over two hours from 9pm.
At 10pm, Billie Piper's Secret Diary Of A Call Girl logged its lowest audience to date, with just 488,000 (3%) for ITV2. It was beaten by BBC Three's EastEnders repeat, which had 659,000 (4.1%).
