Young, who graduated with a degree in politics from the University of Exeter, told Radio 5 Live's Simon Mayo that he still has an interest in the subject.
"I don't see myself as an expert - I'm just a singer," he commented. "Although I'd love to go on something like Question Time, I do have opinions on it, but that's not my job description."
Later in the show, Question Time's editor Gill Penlington called to invite the singer on to the show "at the nearest possible convenience".
Young replied: "Let's do it. Thank you so much."
