According to The Sun, the Soccer Saturday host will take over from Des O'Connor in 2009.
Stelling was apparently first linked to the job in 2005 following the death of host Richard Whiteley, but he eventually lost out to Des Lynam.
"He'd be perfect," a source told the newspaper. "He's quick-witted, clean-cut and is bound to be a hit with housewives."
Stelling would apparently not quit Soccer Saturday to appear on the Channel 4 quiz.
