CNN International has announced three new appointments designed to strengthen coverage in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions.
Martin Soong is moving from CNBC Asia to CNN's Asia headquarters in Hong Kong to anchor Hong Kong-based programming and report from the region. He said:
"It is a great opportunity to be able to work for one of the world’s leading news brands. I’m excited about this next stage in my career."
Guy Raz will move from NPR to become a Jerusalem correspondent for CNN International. At NPR, Raz was a foreign correspondent based in London and covered numerous events in western Europe and the Middle East, including the war in Iraq.
CNN veteran Octavia Nasr will assume the new position of senior editor of Arab affairs. She previously played a "pivotal role" managing CNN's 15-person Arab news desk.
CNN International's managing director, Chris Cramer, said:
"This underlines CNN’s commitment to the Middle East. Both Guy and Octavia are experts in this region, and their knowledge will enable us to bring our global audience a fuller picture of the complex issues and events taking place there."
