BBC plans boost to arts coverage
Published Monday, Feb 9 2004, 02:08 GMT | By James Welsh
The BBC will launch a raft of new arts programming generated by a new contemporary arts unit, The Observer reported on Sunday.
The corporation has come under fire in recent months for shunting arts coverage to digital-only channel BBC4, rather than airing it on BBC2 which is more widely available. This new unit would produce programmes for both channels, with some arts programmes making their way into BBC2's primetime lineup.
The report in The Observer said that the price tag for the new programmes is £8m.
