Life On Mars writer Tony Jordan has been confirmed as the writer for new BBC Wales drama Crash!.

Jordan, whose TV credits also include EastEnders and Hustle, will lead a team of Welsh writers for the project.

Crash! is based around four young doctors who have started working in their first jobs at Cardiff Metropolitan Hospital. It will follow the friends as they face "life-or-death decisions and sometimes get things wrong".

Jordan described the programme as "contemporary" and "fresh" with an emphasis on "great characters and simple stories well told".

The show is expected to air in late 2009.
