Boyzone and Alexandra Burke are the latest music stars to call for Top Of The Pops to be revived permanently.

Ronan Keating said that the BBC chart run-down was "part of my youth" and he is eager to see it return full-time for his children's sake.

"Every Thursday night at 7 O'Clock it was Top Of The Pops and I loved every minute of it," ITN quotes him as saying. "I wish it was back for my kids. It was a very important part of the week to find out what was number one."

X Factor champion Alexandra Burke added that the promise of appearing on the Christmas Day Top Of The Pops special spurred her on to victory on the reality show.

"I cried when they stopped that show," she said. "Then they told me the winner gets to perform on a one-off Top Of The Pops, that's what kicked me up the bum and said to me, 'You better win girl'."

The music show ran for more than 40 years before being axed in 2006.
