The Scottish actor, who has four more 'specials' to record before he bows out of the role, admitted that he would love to film a musical version of the sci-fi show, provided it was written for the screen.
"Doctor Who the musical has been mentioned," he said. "I would be up for it. I love a song and dance. The thing about a musical [on stage] is you have to commit for a year and a half and it's eight times a week."
It is thought that Doctor Who writer Russell T. Davies is a big fan of classic Hollywood musicals and wants to bow out with an explosive, show-stopping episode.
Earlier this year Tennant announced that he would be stepping down from playing the iconic Time Lord at the end of 2009.
