Norris: 'Economy is frightening TV execs'

Rex Features

Hermione Norris has claimed that the recession is making TV bosses too scared to greenlight new dramas.

The Spooks actress warned that executives are less inclined to make ambitious programmes in the current economic climate.

She said: "Cold Feet was a pilot. More money needs to be given to support and create new pilots. We need to take risks.

"There's less and less money in TV drama. We need to support young writers. You're totally dependent on writers in my profession.

"Everyone's frightened. What the whole credit crunch thing does is put fear into people. I had to stop myself watching Newsnight because I'd go to bed and worry about what was going to happen. It's a shame the majority are suffering for minority greed."
