According to Metro, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross's producers want to "hit the ground running" when the show returns later this month and are attempting to recruit a "high-profile lineup".
Cruise is expected to visit the UK soon to promote his upcoming movie Valkyrie.
Stephen Fry, comic Lee Evans and Scottish indie band Franz Ferdinand have already been confirmed for the first show back on January 23.
Ross was suspended without pay from the BBC in October after he and comedian Russell Brand left a series of lewd messages on the answering machine of Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.
