Suranne Jones 'hated' blonde hair

Suranne Jones has admitted that she "hated" going blonde for her new TV role.

Unforgiven, which begins on ITV1 next week, sees the actress starring as a woman who is released from prison after serving a 15-year sentence for the murder of two policemen.

Discussing the dirty blonde hair required for the part, Jones told The Mirror: "I hated it. Friends thought I was having a mid-life crisis with this nicotine-yellow hair. I tried to go with the look and wore jeans and a check shirt. It was a vain attempt to look like Daisy Duke. But I looked a bugger!"

Jones is still best remembered for playing fiery Coronation Street character Karen McDonald for four years before quitting in 2004.

She revealed: "I'm such a massive Corrie fan. I love the show and I'd love to be part of the 50th celebrations but I've got no plans to go back."
