ITV 'Stockwell' drama draws just 1.4m

A one-off drama based on the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes pulled in just 1.4 million viewers to ITV1 on Wednesday.

Stockwell, recreating the controversial chain of events leading to de Menezes' death at Stockwell tube station in July 2005, pulled in just 1.39m (6%) in the 9pm hour.

ITV was beaten by all other terrestrial channels over the period, including Five, which enjoyed an audience of 2.1m (10%) for Wesley Snipes thriller movie The Contractor.

BBC One won the slot with 4.17m (17.9%) for the second episode of nature documentary The Secret Life Of Elephants. Channel 4 had an impressive 3.92m (16.9%) for the final episode of Big Chef Takes On Little Chef, with an additional 179k (1.1%) on Channel 4+1.

BBC Two's The City Uncovered With Evan Davis drew 1.61m (7%).

ITV1 earlier won the 8pm hour with 4.9m (20.5%) for The Bill, while on BBC One, Waterloo Road delivered 4.02m (16.8%).

Eco show It's Not Easy Being Green was seen by 2.15m (9.1%) on BBC Two at 8pm, then the latest MasterChef brought in 3.24m (13.3%). Five took 1.71m (7.1%) for Ice Road Truckers.

Two episodes of Celebrity Big Brother, which included the double evictions of La Toya Jackson and Tommy Sheridan, had 2.42m (10.1%) at 8pm and 2.68m (14.2%) at 10pm.

Coronation Street notched up 9.47m (41.9%) for ITV1 at 7.30pm, while Emmerdale claimed 7.4m (34.5%).

Hollyoaks grabbed 1.71m (8.2%) for Channel 4 and 639k (3.3%) for E4, while on Five, Neighbours had 1.55m (9.3%) and Home & Away had 1.11m (5.7%).

ITV1 was down a disappointing six points in primetime to a share of 18.7%, but still finished ahead of BBC One, which averaged 18.3%. Big Brother helped boost Channel 4's share by almost two points to 11.2%. BBC Two was fourth place with 7.6%, closely followed by Five on 7.1%.

BBC Three's screening of the War Of The Worlds remake starring Tom Cruise brought in the highest multichannel audience of the day, with an average of 1.17m (6%) watching between 9pm and 10.50pm.
