A woman nearly drowned while performing a stunt on Uri Geller's new German TV show.

Amila, 26, was a contestant on The Next Uri Geller, who was trying to prove that she had psychic powers. Her challenge was to guess a four-digit code, which would release her from a tank filling with water.

She was rescued from the tank by show assistants with bolt cutters after 25 seconds underwater.

"Luckily somehow I had this instinct to shout out: 'Get her out of there quickly'," Geller told The Sun. "It was a horrifying drama."

A spokesperson for broadcaster ProSieben said: "Her security was paramount at all times."

Amila was voted through to the next round by the public and Geller is keen for her to repeat the challenge.

"I am afraid that if she doesn't do it again she might have a major phobia of this performance," he said. "People expected me to give her a very negative verdict, but I didn't. I was very impressed by her confidence and her courage."
