'Friends' spinoff is highlight of NBC lineup

Friends spinoff series Joey is the highlight of NBC's new primetime lineup for the 2004-05 season.

The new show, which sees Matt LeBlanc reprise his role as struggling actor Joey Tribbiani, will air in the same 8pm Thursday slot. The series will lead in to Will & Grace, which has been renewed for a seventh season.

The only other new comedy is CGI series Father of the Pride, which follows the lives of a pride of white lions who perform in the world-famous Siegfried and Roy show. In all, NBC will have just four comedies on its slate this year, the fewest of any network.

New dramas include Medical Investigation, about an elite team of doctors travelling the country to take on critical cases, and Hawaii, a crime drama following a "diverse team of cops and detectives" chasing murder, drug-running and organised cartels. Spin City star Heather Locklear leads the cast of LAX, set in the international airport and telling tales of security breaches, tearful reunions, illegal immigrants, missing children, runaway animals, drug busts and drunken pilots.

Yet another Law & Order spinoff, taglined 'Trial By Jury', will launch midseason, as will the US version of The Office, new Bill Pullman sci-drama series Revelations and Sylvester Stallone boxing reality show The Contender.

Returning reality series include 2004's breakout hit The Apprentice for a further two cycles, a new Average Joe season and a fourth installment of For Love Or Money.
