The programme, which sees top UK chefs compete aginst each other, has enjoyed a successful three-series run on BBC Two.
In the fourth series, the chefs will cook a homecoming banquet to honour men and women who have recently returned from active service in Afghanistan.
"We are delighted that Great British Menu will be back on our screens - not just for another series - but for two," said BBC Daytime executive editor Lindsay Bradbury.
"We hope they'll be even bigger and better than the last, with the same high production values, great chefs and cooking take-out – but we've also got some fabulous surprises up our sleeves."
Series four of Great British Menu is expected to air later this year.
