'Moving Wallpaper' finishes last in slot

The new series of Moving Wallpaper got off to a poor start on Friday night, finishing last in its 9pm slot.

The ITV1 comedy, which was picked up for a second run despite only modest ratings last year, averaged 2.12m (9.2%) on Friday night.

It was beaten by QI on BBC One, with 3.79m (16.4%) over the same 30 minutes, and C4's Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA, with 2.47m (10.9%) for the hour and a further 542k (3.4%) on timeshift.

BBC Two's Six Nations coverage was top for the period, averaging an impressive 4.06m (17.7%) over two hours from 8pm.

Even Five was ahead of Moving Wallpaper as a new episode of US navy drama NCIS took 2.41m (10.6%) in the 9pm hour.

After Wallpaper, ratings fell further as ITV debuted new comedy series Al Murray's Multiple Personality Disorder. The sketch show began its seven-week run with a disappointing 1.92m (8.2%) and was beaten by BBC One's Not Going Out, which had 3.19m (14.6%) from 9.30pm.

The latest episode of Pushing Daisies put in 1.19m (6.8%) for ITV1 in the 10pm hour and was beaten by Five's Numb3rs, which had 1.27m (7.2%).

Earlier, Five had managed victory over Channel 4 in the 8pm hour. The former's Police Interceptors picked up 1.26m (5.4%), while A Place In The Sun: Home Or Away had 1.23m (5.2%).

BBC One led primetime overall with an average share of 21.1% to ITV1's 18.9%. BBC Two was a strong third place finish with 13%, followed by Channel 4 with 6.2% (+1: 1.1%) and Five with 6.2%.

BBC Four's repeat of Julie Walters comedy drama Calendar Girls delivered a strong audience from 10pm, with 615k (4.4%) tuning in over 100 minutes.

Also popular in multichannel homes were E4's Supernanny, with 426k (2.1%) in the 9pm hour, and ITV4 movie Cyborg, with 378k (2.8%) from 10pm.
