The new shows would be used to boost ITV's poor performance in the 5pm to 6pm 'teatime' slot. The network currently takes a hammering in the hour from The Weakest Link on BBC Two and Channel 4's Richard & Judy.
Director of programmes Nigel Pickard told the magazine that he was pitching ideas for the slot and had already commissioned three scripts for a spinoff of The Bill. Called Sun Hill General, the show would be set in St Hughes, the hospital regularly visited in the police soap.
Other pilot scripts have also been commissioned for spinoffs of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
