The BBC One night of entertainment was kicked off with presenters Davina McCall and David Tennant, who shared an onstage kiss just moments before Angus Deayton accidentally swore live on air two hours before the watershed.
In a joke over the former Have I Got News For You star reading out his bank details, Deayton inadvertently said: "Bugger, yes." McCall mouthed the word "sorry" to the camera, while a spokesperson said no offence had been meant.
Paul Whitehouse and Harry Enfield created a Victorian special of Dragon's Den, while McCall and Tennant went head to head in a Mastermind special presented by John Humphreys. Tennant eventually triumphed with his knowledge of Dr Who over McCall's Big Brother prowess.
Another highlight was the final sketch ever to be performed by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, which took the form of a parody of the movie Mamma Mia!. The spoof featured Sienna Miller, who played alongside the two comics as the young bride.
Last night's haul is nearly £20 million more than the former end-of-night record of £40 million, set in 2007.
