DS Icon: Nick Hewer & Margaret Mountford

Forget about Sir Alan Sugar's boardroom battles, the main reason the nation will be tuning in by their millions for the start of The Apprentice series 5 will be to get their annual dose of Nick & Margaret. The silver-haired fox Hewer and the waspish wit of Mountford always come as a package, acting as Sir Alan's "eye and ears" in the role of "no-nonsense advisers". Nick's pained sucking-on-a-very-bitter-lemon grimaces and Margaret's stern headmistress stare make the BBC series unmissable telly. Whether it's Nick eyeing up a Britney Spears lookalike in a leather catsuit or Margaret blasting Edinburgh "not what it used to be" University, the pair are never anything short of amazing.

Aside from the duo's ability to speak a thousand words with just a raised eyebrow or a withering look, Nick and Margaret are accomplished and esteemed business people. Margaret was educated at Cambridge and worked as a top-tier solicitor before meeting Sir Alan. The 56-year-old is not one for taking a rest and is currently studying for a Ph.D in Papyrology! Meanwhile, tractor fanatic Nick is a PR guru, who represented Sir Alan's Amstrad firm in the 1980s. Nick and Sir Alan became such good buddies that Sir Alan hosted an event at The Dorchester for over 100 guests for his retirement party!
