BBC secures Titanic broadcast rights

The BBC has paid around £7 million to secure the broadcast rights for blockbuster movie Titanic, it has been revealed.

The smash film will be screened on Christmas Day, in an effort to win the festive ratings war between BBC1 and ITV. Whilst the Corporation unveils its exact schedule next week, several details were leaked to the press on Monday morning.

Walking With Dinosaurs will return for a special hour-long edition, and a host of celebrities will star in drama Lorna Doone. Another drama series, Donovan Quick, starring Colin Firth, will make its debut. The Royal Family's Christmas service will be televised live in Morning Worship, and Victoria Wood will return in a new one-off special.

On BBC2, The Weakest Link will feature a celebrity special, and The Fast Show will air its last edition.
