Inspector Morse's sidekick Lewis is taking the lead role in a revival of the popular drama series.
The new show, called After Morse, sees Lewis (actor Kevin Whately) promoted from sergeant to inspector following the death of Morse (the late John Thaw) four years ago.
Nick Elliott, ITV's head of drama, said: "Colin Dexter — who wrote the books — and Kevin Whately are very happy and looking forward to it. Kevin will be Lewis, getting on with his life after his friend’s death."
A massive 13 million watched the final episode of Inspector Morse in 2000.
