ITV is launching a new series which it hopes will be the new Big Brother, it has been announced.
Public Property will feature 6 contestants, who, over the course of 12 weeks, will be directed on the course of their lives. Co-creator Simon Goodman said, "We'll take four individuals and one couple who are looking for a change - they might feel stuck in a rut, or trapped. The audience will write their life story for 12 weeks and shape their lives."
The show will broadcast weekdays as part of a new daytime lineup. Each episode will focus on an individual participant, where viewers will be able to vote on a major life-changing decision for them. Minor details, such as the clothes they wear each day, will be decided by readers of the accompanying website.
Producer Jerry Glover said, "The whole thing is determined democratically. The audience is in effect the script editor in a real life soap." The format has been sold to US network ABC.
