The stars of Monty Python are to reunite for a documentary marking the 40th anniversary of the show's first broadcast.

The troupe, made up of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, first appeared with their Flying Circus on the BBC in October 1969.

A DVD entitled Monty Python: Almost The Truth (The Lawyer's Cut) will reportedly feature interviews with all the surviving members as well as archive footage of the late Chapman.

Footage from the documentary is also expected to be shown on TV, reports PA.

Jones said: "This is the documentary I always hoped that would be made - something so complete and so faithful to the truth that I don't need to watch it."

Guest interviews from Russell Brand, Steve Coogan, Bruce Dickinson, Jeff Bridges, Eddie Izzard, Stephen Merchant, Dan Aykroyd, Tim Roth and Hugh Hefner will feature on the DVD.
