Man in custody over Savident attack

A man is being held in custody over yesterday's attack on Coronation Street star John Savident, aka butcher Fred Elliott.
28-year-old Michael James Smith was charged with stabbing Mr Savident twice in the neck and subsequently robbing him. He allegedly stole four credit cards, a wallet, a Georg Jensen watch, an invitation to the soap's fortieth anniversary dinner, a silver money clip, £80 cash and house and car keys.
He has been remanded until Friday 8th December.
