Over ten million UK adults use the BBC's interactive services on Freeview and digital satellite, according to new research.
The BBC and Teletext commissioned a "quantitative study of Freeview homes" revealing that 3.6m adults used BBCi on Freeview in May 2004. Numbers from TNS show that 6.6m adults used BBCi on digital satellite during the same time period. No numbers for BBCi on cable were available.
The research also says that 5.2m adults are aware of BBCi's presence on Freeview, compared to 12.4m adults being aware of the digital satellite version.
"The growing reach and usage of BBCi reflects what the audience have been telling us - they value an interactive service that is available on demand, complements programming, and is free," explained Rahul Chakkara, Controller of BBCi 24/7 services. "Our challenge now is to entice the rest of the digital public to use BBCi."
