Agyeman: 'Matt will be fantastic Doctor'

Freema Agyeman has revealed that she approves of Matt Smith taking over the iconic lead role on Doctor Who.

The actress, famed for playing The Doctor's assistant on the cult show, said that she thinks Smith is "absolutely fantastic" and the right man to fill the role.

She told DS: "He's great. I can imagine there must have been a fair few people up for that role and for the producers to have such confidence in him, he must clearly have blown them away.

"He looks absolutely fantastic. He's a really good actor in all the other things he's done. I think he's going to be outstanding."

Earlier this year, Billie Piper also voiced her approval over the casting.

Smith will make his debut as The Doctor in 2010.
