ITV New Years special cancelled

An ITV New Years' Eve special starring Lily Savage, aka actor Paul O'Grady, has been cancelled.
The network was planning to air a special programme starting at 11pm, with the culminating moment at midnight featuring a fireworks spectacular from mayor Ken Livingstone. The show has now been axed, however, following last month's cancellation of the fireworks display.
A Carlton spokesman said, "The show hinged on there being a big hoopla around the Thames with the fireworks. Suddenly there wasn't, which rather defeated the object of doing it."
A replacement progarmme will be announced later this week.
