Fry: 'Sketch comedy is for youngsters'

Rex Features

Stephen Fry has claimed that sketch comedy should be left to young people.

Speaking to DS, the A Bit Of Fry & Laurie star revealed that he believes he is too old to do a sketch show.

"I think sketch comedy is a young person's game," he said. "I think Hugh and I have always felt that. I don't know why it should be - it just somehow is."

He added: "Writing and performing sketches is somehow like being a school boy doing impressions of your teachers. And when you're beyond the age of a teacher, it's somehow less funny."

When asked if he and Laurie would consider reprising their sketch show, Fry confirmed: "I think we'll leave the sketch comedy to the young types."
